CHEFS (Cornwall Healthy Eating and Food Safety) Award
The Riverside in Boscastle has been presented with a Silver CHEFS award.
The Award means that The Riverside will be able to display the distinctive blue logo, which tells customers that it has adopted and maintains a high degree of food safety and standards, provides and promotes a selection of local foods as well as using healthier cooking methods.
“We believe that the standard of the menus and the quality of local food, together with the healthy choices offered to guests 'is second to none'. Over the years that we have been a part of the business community, we have tried wherever possible to promote trade and commerce within the village. This includes commitment in using local suppliers and offering sustainable employment. However, what is more important is the need to highlight the dedication of the staff that enabled us to achieve what we have been awarded.”
Launched in October 2005, the Cornwall Healthier Eating and Food Safety (CHEFS) Awards are awarded by Cornwall Council’s food safety officers working with in partnership with Eatsome/NHS Health Promotion Service, change 4 life and the Council’s trading standards officers.
Cornwall Council Food Safety Officer, Peter Andrews, said: “This is a prestigious award. To achieve this food establishments must satisfy Cornwall Council food inspectors that they not only offer healthier dishes but, through preferential pricing, that they actively encourage customers to choose them. Award winners must meet the highest standards of cleanliness and food hygiene practices, including the use of a documented food safety management system. Customers will have a guarantee that a percentage of the items on the menu are sourced locally. Well done to all at The Riverside Boscastle on achieving a silver award.
